AUCTIONEER’S NOTE – I can remember as a little boy following my father to auction after auction of Estate Properties much like this one. Large, Antebellum Homes with huge columns, mountainous boxwood landscaping, outbuildings, timber, creek frontage outbuildings and personal property going back generations were not that rare an experience.
I do not recall having the opportunity of selling an Estate such as this in the last 20 years!
-Not just any creek – World Famous Big Cedar Creek
-Not just any home – The Headquarters of the Landfall Plantation
-Not just routine trees but managed timber
-FOUR Generations of memorabilia to enjoy and contemplate buying for that amazing keepsake
These are just a few of the opportunities you will have to investigate buying treasures to last for generations in your own family. The Sellers of this property have owned it for many years and now is your time to buy. Put this sale on your calendar – investigate and enjoy and buy at this auction under the tent and the trees!
Cedartown Standard re: this home on tour –
“The Pickett-Wilson home located on the Cave Spring Road is an example of the type of house built by wealthy Southern planters during the ante-bellum period.
It was built in 1843 by William Winfrey Peek on land purchased from Asa Pryor. This home and surrounding land was owned by Peek’s descendants until 1947 when the late Mrs. Florine Whitney, a great-granddaughter sold the property to John P. Pickett. This beautiful home marks the grace and elegance of theold South. The interior woodwork and floors are of walnut, the ceilings and borders are ornamented with plaster medallions in a lovely plume design. The drawing room is furnished with exquisite furniture of the Italian Renaissance period. The room features two fireplaces with unusually fine mantels which were purchased in Italy. The dining room is probably the most elegant part of the house. A beautiful Waterford crystal chandelier immediately captures the eye. Both the chandelier and the matching candelabras which adorn the walls have been converted to electricity. The room is spacious and it is easy to invision a time when people lived a leisurely life and took time to enjoy entertaining on a large scale. The Pickett-Wilson home stands as it was originally built in 1843, and what was then a slave building, which stands to the left of the house, has now been converted to a guest house. Both the house and slave cabin are in an excellent state of preservation….”
